SMS Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 12, 2026
Bio Alliances sends limited SMS messages related to emergency health profile access. This policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share phone numbers and SMS-related information.
SMS Messages We Send
Our SMS messages are transactional alerts. They may notify an emergency contact that a health profile was opened by confirmed medical personnel. A typical message may include the profile holder's name, the time the profile was opened, and, when available, approximate location information or a map link related to the access event.
Consent From Both Parties
Bio Alliances is designed to support consent from both sides of the emergency health profile alert workflow. The profile holder, or an authorized representative acting on the profile holder's behalf, approves the emergency contact phone numbers and SMS alert preferences associated with the profile. Each SMS recipient must also affirmatively opt in or complete SMS verification before Bio Alliances sends SMS alerts to that phone number.
Confirmed medical personnel who access an emergency health profile must also acknowledge that they are accessing the information for an authorized purpose and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements. Bio Alliances uses these approvals and acknowledgments to help limit alerts to authorized profile access events and consented recipients.
Information We Collect
To send and manage SMS alerts, we may collect and process:
- Phone numbers provided by the profile holder for emergency contacts.
- The profile holder's name and emergency profile identifier.
- SMS consent, verification, and opt-out records for recipients.
- Profile holder or authorized representative alert preference records.
- Medical personnel access acknowledgments related to emergency profile access events.
- SMS delivery metadata, such as message status, timestamps, and carrier delivery errors.
- Approximate location information related to emergency profile access, when available and permitted by the device or network.
Emergency Contact Choices
Emergency contact phone numbers are provided and approved by the profile holder or by an authorized representative acting on the profile holder's behalf. Bio Alliances sends SMS alerts only to verified emergency contact phone numbers with stored SMS consent. The profile holder is responsible for choosing appropriate emergency contacts and for keeping those phone numbers accurate and up to date.
Profile holders have access to their profile settings and may update, replace, or remove emergency contact phone numbers and related SMS alert preferences at any time through the Bio Alliances service or by contacting us.
The SMS alert consent workflow and sample disclosure language are available at Bio Alliances SMS Consent.
How We Use SMS Information
We use SMS-related information only to:
- Send emergency health profile access alerts.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and improve delivery of those alerts.
- Maintain security, auditability, and abuse prevention for emergency profile access.
- Comply with legal, carrier, and communications service requirements.
How We Share Information
We may share SMS-related information with service providers that help us send and operate SMS alerts, such as telecommunications and messaging providers. These providers are allowed to use the information only to provide services to Bio Alliances and not for their own marketing.
We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Bio Alliances, users, emergency contacts, or others.
Opting Out
Recipients may opt out of SMS messages by replying STOP where supported by the messaging provider. Recipients may also contact us at info@bioalliances.com to request removal from SMS alerts.
Because these messages relate to emergency health profile access, opting out may prevent delivery of future emergency profile access notifications to that phone number.
Data Security and Retention
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect SMS-related information. We retain SMS-related data only as long as reasonably necessary for alert delivery, auditing, security, troubleshooting, legal compliance, and operation of the service.
Children's Privacy
Our SMS alert service is not directed to children. Emergency contact phone numbers should be provided only by authorized profile holders or their authorized representatives.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this SMS Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
